چکیده

Using the local helioseismic technique of ring diagram we analyze the frequencies of high–degree fand p-modes derived from both velocity and continuum intensity data observed by MDI. Fitting the spectra with asymmetric peak profiles, we find that the asymmetry associated with velocity line profiles is negative for all frequency ranges agreeing with previous observations while the asymmetry of the intensity profiles shows a complex and frequency dependent behavior. We also observe systematic frequency differences between intensity and velocity spectra at the high end of the frequency range, mostly above 4 mHz. We infer that this difference arises from the fitting of the intensity rather than the velocity spectra. We also show that the frequency differences between intensity and velocity do not vary significantly from the disk center to the limb when the spectra are fitted with the asymmetric profile and conclude that only a part of the background is correlated with the intensity oscillations. Asymmetry in Velocity and Intensity Helioseismic Spectra: a Solution to a Long-standing Puzzle

We give an explanation for the opposite sense of asymmetry of the solar acoustic mode lines in velocity and intensity oscillation power spectra, thereby solving the half-decade–old puzzle of Duvall and coworkers. The solution came after comparing the velocity and intensity oscillation data of medium angular degree l obtained from the Michelson Doppler Imager instrument on board the Solar and He...

Comparison of Frequencies and Rotational Splittings of Solar Acoustic Modes of Low Angular Degree from Simultaneous Mdi and Golf Observations

During the years 1996 through 1998 the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) and the Global Oscillations at Low Frequency (GOLF) experiments on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) mission have provided unique and nearly uninterrupted sequences of helioseismic observations. This paper describes the analysis carried out on power spectra from 759 days of calibrated disk-averaged velocity signal...

On the p-mode asymmetry between velocity and intensity from the GONG+ data

We have analyzed the local acoustic spectra of small regions over the solar surface at different locations from disk center to limb via the technique of ring diagrams. It is found that the frequency shifts between velocity and intensity is a function of location on the disk and is higher near the disk center than those near the limb. The peaks of solar oscillation p-modes observed in velocity a...

Recent observations indicate that solar p-mode line profiles are not exactly Lorentzian, but rather exhibit varying amounts of asymmetry about their respective peaks. We analyze p-mode line asymmetry using both a simplified one-dimensional model and a more realistic solar model. We find that the amount of asymmetry exhibited by a given mode depends on the location of the sources exciting the mo...

Numerical Simulations of Oscillation Modes of the Solar Convection Zone.

We use the three-dimensional hydrodynamic code of Stein & Nordlund to realistically simulate the upper layers of the solar convection zone in order to study physical characteristics of solar oscillations. Our first result is that the properties of oscillation modes in the simulation closely match the observed properties. Recent observations from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO)/Mic...
